Negeri Sembilan lifted their second Malaysia Cup title in three years
after overcoming Terengganu 2-1 in a thrilling encounter on Saturday.
Fans
from both sides packed into the Shah Alam stadium in their thousands,
but it was the ones clad in yellow and black who celebrated after goals
from S. Kunanlan and Hairuddin Omar sealed victory.
Terengganu were the slight favourites prior to the match but Negeri were the side to begin the final stronger.
They
controlled possession during the early stages and looked the more
dangerous going forward, though Terengganu enjoyed their fair share of
chances on the break.
The Turtles attempted to force their way
back into the game when a glorious chance fell to Modh Ashaari
Shamsuddin, who was fed with a through ball from Abdul Hadi Yahya.
But
the flamboyant midfielder squandered the chance by smothering the ball
straight at Negri's goalkeeper, while team-mate Abdul Manaf Mamat then
saw his shot rattle the bar after some good work by Joseph Kalang Tie
down the wing.
Negeri's upper hand in the first half was
characterised more often than not by S. Kunanlan causing headaches the
Terengganu defence.
The pacey winger drove his way through the
oppositive defence in the 28th minute before cutting in to shoot, but
his effort was cleared off the line.
